ABOUT ME!
. . . . and what I've been up to!
About Me - My Background
Born and raised in Johannesburg, my passion for travel started at a fairly young age - and I’ve been exploring Southern Africa since.
Through the years, I've gained a deep understanding of its cultures. landscapes and wildlife.
Whilst still at school, trains were my main modes of travel – both locally, and into neighbouring Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and Portuguese East Africa (Moçambique), but after school, and my compulsory military training (meteorologist in the Air Force), I became a real free spirit.
The allure of the open road seduced me, and hitch-hiking throughout Southern Africa gave me that freedom!
Victoria Falls was an annual pilgrimage!
My modes of transport, in addition to hitch-hiking, included anything that would get me to where I wanted to go.
It included most of the more common ones such as bicycle, motorbike, train, plane, bus, car, ferry and 4×4, but also included a few of the less common ones - a guard’s van (caboose) on a train, a makoro, a number of huge intercontinental trucks and a dhow!!
More recently, a trusty Land Rover Defender 200Tdi carried me through Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique and Eswatini and two Yamaha trail motorbikes to explore Lesotho and every corner of South Africa.
On occasion I headed further north into East Africa
Probably the most memorable trips were on motor bike through Lesotho - such a special country!
About Me — Your Guide to the Bush
I am a registered Nature and Culture Tourist Guide and a member of the Institute of Professional Tourist Guides of Southern Africa (IPTGSA).
I started guiding by hosting guests in Kruger Park on specialised birding trips.
I’ve since guided individuals, families, and small private groups across South Africa.
For over 20 years, I've done volunteer work in our National Parks, supporting conservation.
This also allowed me to gain access to, and experience, areas not open to the general public.
This hands-on experience has allowed me to truly connect with, and understand, ecosystems and the wildlife that lives on them.
My tours are carefully curated to be immersive, educational, and unforgettable.
Whether it’s spotting the Big Five in Kruger, exploring Pilanesberg, discovering hidden corners of Eswatini and St Lucia or undiscovered gems on the Garden Route, my safaris are designed for people who love meaningful, personal outdoor and bush experiences.
My favourite Signature Small-Group Routes Include:
Johannesburg → Kruger → Eswatini → St Lucia → Garden Route → Cape Town
Johannesburg → Kruger → Eswatini → St Lucia → Drakensberg → Durban
Johannesburg → Kruger → Eswatini → Kosi Bay → St Lucia → Sani Pass & Lesotho → Durban
These tours are private, flexible, and designed around your interests, combining wildlife, culture, and scenic landscapes in a way that large group tours simply cannot.
